built in his image

publication design

Built in His Image is a publication about Gothic Revival architecture, its increased usage in America before the Civil War, and its ties to white supremacy. It is an exploration of history, culture, and religion through an academic lens.

The text is appropriated from two academic articles on the subject and the imagery is edited photos of gothic architecture buildings in Center City, Philadephia. The overall dark themes of the book are accomplished through the limited color palette and dynamic image-making that visually ties in with the themes of connecting ideas. While also mimicking the aesthetics of technical architectural drawings.
